Nasolabial Folds

Nasolabial Folds

While everyone associates wrinkles with ageing, the process begins with volume loss. While reduction in collagen and elastin lead to wrinkles, loss of facial volume is the most noticeable factor in the ageing process. This is most immediately discernible in the mid-face region. That includes the area directly under eyes (tear troughs) as well as the lines that run vertically along either side of your nose - the nasolabial folds.

Placement and visibility

Nasolabial folds run from the corner of your nose to the corner of your upper lip. Over time, these lines experience dramatic increase in depth. The result of facial volume loss in this mid-face region is a permanently exhausted appearance. Skin has a gaunt, drawn quality that instantly ages the face beyond its years. This can be especially noticeable in patients with slim, less round faces

How are nasolabial folds treated?

As with any area afflicted by loss of volume, SISU's doctors expertly replace that volume at targeted, precise points in the nasolabial region. This is done with dermal fillers, made from hyaluronic acid, a compound that is produced naturally by the human body and is vital to collagen production.

As every treatment at SISU is personalised for each patient, the total volume administered may vary - as may the division of dermal fillers between the two lines. For deeper lines, more volume will need to be replaced. To eradicated very deep lines completely, more than one treatment may be required.

Is there any downtime?

This varies from patient to patient. The procedure is non-surgical and made up of a series of injections along the nasolabial folds. The dermal fillers used in these injections contain a local anaesthetic, making them virtually painless. There is some risk of temporary bruising and mild swelling, which we prepare every patient for; bruising occurs in roughly 1.5 people per 10 patients. While it can take up to 10 - 12 days for a bruise to disappear completely, makeup can be applied to conceal bruising along the injection site within 12 hours.

Are nasolabial fold fillers very obvious?

SISU's aesthetic doctors have years of experience in achieving natural, subtle, rejuvenating results with dermal fillers along the nasolabial folds. Dermal filler treatments can have a major impact in terms of restoring volume and a youthful quality to skin. But they do not radically change the shape or structure of the face. The truth is that the best aesthetic medicine is not identifiable as 'work' someone has had done: It's natural yet highly impactful. That's the quality of outcome SISU is known for and will create for you.
