Is Kim Kardashian’s €4k Skincare Routine Worth It?

June 11, 2018

As we’ve written previously, a recent study found that the average woman will spend more than €30,000 on makeup and skincare in her lifetime. If you’re Kim Kardashian, you spend that much in less than one year.

KKW recently revealed the skincare products she uses on a regular basis. Many of her favourites come not from a medically rigorous line, but from department store brand La Mer. Kim also splurges a lot on Guerlain skincare – another department store brand known more for its pretty packaging than the products inside.

One budget item Mrs. Kanye West intends to start using is witch hazel, recommended to her by her grandmother. Unfortunately, any dermatologist worth her salt would never recommend using this straight onto skin. Acid toners often include a small amount of witch hazel as a buffering agent, but on its own, it carries risks of adverse reaction and delivers no desirable results.

Reality check: Skincare products aren’t behind Kim’s ever-evolving facial structure and fresh appearance. Yes, a really great makeup artist makes a big difference, as she has freely admitted for many years.

What else helps? A regular routine of non-surgical treatments like Botox, dermal fillers, and more. Some of these serve a preventative function, while others help address issues with one’s appearance that have already surfaced. No topical treatments can match these for effectiveness. Kim’s sister Kylie Jenner’s lip fillers are a testament to that.

Kim has been open about her love of cutting-edge facials, too. She knows full well that it’s part of her job to look amazing at all times, which means consistent, scientifically rigorous treatments like chemical peels. No face scrub will achieve the effective, gentle exfoliation that naturally-derived acids do.

So while it’s tempting to believe you could go out, drop €4,000 on skincare, and end up with the sculpted beauty of Kim Kardashian, that’s pure fantasy. What you can do is prioritise your beauty budget to include regular, medically-administered treatments that both prevent and address your aesthetic challenges. You’ll get real results – and in many cases, they are immediate.
