ABOUT MICRONEEDLING

Not as scary as it sounds

Microneedling is one of the latest, most popular trends in skin treatment. Unlike so many other fads, microneedling delivers solid results for a range of skin concerns. It also has powerful anti-aging effects. Find out why patients at SISU's clinics in Cork, Dublin and Killarney love microneedling.

Our medical aesthetic facials are more than just creams and and a rub.

How Microneedling Works

Microneedling involves a gliding roller that uses extremely tiny needles to prick the skin. This is not painful, but it sends a signal to the body that there is an 'injury'. The body then sends a flood of new collagen and skin tissue to the area that has been treated, creating smoother, firmer skin.

Benefits of Microneedling

Microneedling helps many patients with a range of skin problems and age concerns. It can diminish scars (including acne scars and scars from wounds), sun spots, and other skin discoloration. Microneedling also helps reduce the appearance of wrinkles and large pores, delivering brighter, firmer skin.

What Microneedling Treatment Involves

After your free consultation and talking you through all of the information you need - as well as answering your questions - your SISU doctor will use a topical anaesthetic to numb any discomfort. Beginning the treatment, your doctor will smoothly and evenly glide a small, pen-like tool over your skin. This device makes minute pin-pricks under your skin - so small that you probably will not notice them after your treatment. Your SISU doctor will then lightly massage an antioxidant serum and/or calming treatment into your skin. The procedure itself should only take 30 minutes or less.

What to Expect After Microneedling

Because microneedling is a nonsurgical treatment, there is little to no downtime. After microneedling, your skin works fairly quickly to rejuvenate new tissue. You should see visible results within 14 days. In order to maintain and build upon the positive results of your treatment, repeat treatments are strongly suggested. Your SISU doctor will advise you on the best course of action based on your individual concerns, wishes, and lifestyle. NOTE: As microneedling will make your skin more sensitive to the sun, a strong SPF must be applied to skin every day - even on overcast days - to maintain your results. SPF should be reapplied every two hours or after sweating/swimming.

How to Know Microneedling is Working

You may experience some irritation or redness in the first couple of days after your treatment. This is a telltale sign that the microneedling has done its job; the irritation is the skin's natural response to its microscopic 'injuries', prompting a surge of collagen and new skin tissue to the area. You can go right back to work or do the school run after the procedure. Some patients prefer to cover the redness with light makeup for the few days they might experience redness.
